Album Reviews: Bryan Beller - Thanks In Advance
by Leon
On his second solo offering, mega-bassist Bryan Beller serves up an expansive and deep jazz-rock album, infused with sweet melodies, smooth grooves and even (in sole vocal track 'Play Hard') Biffy Clyro-meets-Soundgarden-and-Incubus solid and uplifting rock tunage. A star backing cast including Mike Keneally (see previous review of Joe Satriani's 'Black Holes And Wormhole Wizards'), Zappa Plays Zappa's multi-instrumentalist Scheila Gonzalez and world-class drummer Marco Minnemann provide the perfect setting for Beller's compositional skills to shine. This album is not just for bassists and musos – I'd recommend it to anyone simply interested in expanding the range of their musical experiences. Don't knock it till you've tried it!
