Album Reviews: Greg Howe, Victor Wooten, Dennis Chambers - Extraction
by Leon
In creating this album, the ridiculously over-talented trio of guitarist Greg Howe, bassist Victor Wooten and drummist Dennis Chambers have made every self-respecting fusion fan's wet dreams a reality, from the Hendrix-inspired riffage of 'Tease', to the latin-influenced 'Contigo', and the Tony Williams' Lifetime classic 'Proto Cosmos' providing many mind-bending melodies and lines delivered with aggression and precision. While albums such as this often fall prey to the 'music for musicians' tag, although it is likely to be an acquired taste for those new to the genre, it is also nonetheless endlessly rewarding for those who have the time (or patience!) to explore it.
