Artist Reviews: Project RnL - Gig Reviewer Feature
by Leon
If you like your music to come with a sense of humour, catchy vocal stylings and left-of-center arrangements, Project RNL could be your new favourite band! Fusing modern pop and jazz with a progressive twist, I discovered them through a Youtube recommendation, and I've been hooked ever since. Their channel can be found here.
So far their output (all in the form of 'videosongs') comprises a mixture of quirky covers and originals, all demonstrating a high level of musical understanding and technique, but not at the expense of 'The Song'. Presented in a high-quality production package (with regard to both audio and visuals), while the songs may take a few listens to sink in I still find myself going back for more and hearing/seeing new things every time. Their cover of Eminem's 'The Real Slim Shady', and original song 'All Stuck-Ups' (which sounds a little like early Incubus overdosing on modern fusion...in a good way) were my personal highlights – not to mention the appearance of Dream Theater keyboardist Jordan Rudess on their latest video for 'Another One'.
While these words are all very good, hopefully by now you've clicked the link above and basked in the wonder that is Project RNL. Enjoy! :)
