Gig Reviews: Status Quo @ The Anvil, Basingstoke 20th Nov '09
by Gary Smith
Raemonn opened the set of this current Status Quo tour, and they were a very good opening act. Requiem was sampled as the band came on stage to break in with full power to their song, Faith.
Raemonn are a five-peice band comprising of 1 keyboardist, 1 guitarist, 1 bassist, 1 drummer and lead vocals. They had a brilliant opening and were able to change moods of tracks as they went through and were very enjoyable to watch live. They were exceptionally well received considering the average age of the audience that were all there to see Status Quo!
The sound was very well produced, and you could hear everything very clearly. The bassist was a bit of a "one note wonder" as some may call it, but it worked well. The drummer was also very energetic, twirling the sticks as and when he got the chance. The keyboardist had 3 keyboards to battle between, but was also very energetic in his playing. The guitarist was also very good, and the vocalist was one that you could listen to all day. Overall though, when each band member had their spot, they did not leave it and it dropped a little from the viewers perspective - that is something that happens when everyone has a microphone or static instrument I guess!
They played five songs from their self titled album which hits the shops soon - a must for any good rock fans! They got the audience warmed up very well, also. They had some hard hitting tracks with memorable lyrics and music to make you leave with their music still running around your head.
They left their set with a fabulous track, which was also very fitting as it was called It's Over Now. I would strongly suggest going to see them live when you get the opportunity as you will not be disappointed.
After a half an hour break, Status Quo came on the stage swiftly and slowly burst in to Caroline, which was a great number to hit off the two hour set with.
Status Quo played one of their best sets that I have ever seen, filled with the old and the new, and the entire crowds looked as though they were having fits as they were all dancing so much and really enjoying themselves.
