Gig Reviews: Tenacious D @ Brixton Academy (03 November 2002)
by Gordon Tebbutt
Who rocks the most? Tenacious D do. Or so they'd like you to believe.
Tenacious D, if you haven't already heard are a comedy stroke rock act who have been touring for years, and with the help of Dave Grohl (amongst others) released their self-titled album in 2001.
The gig started off with JB (Jack Black) and KG (Kyle Gass) playing Wonderboy in front of a giant inflatable dragon, which to the crowd's delight was slain by JB. Interspersed in the set were two video sets, one with a drug ridden trip out by JB and the other a Tenacious D cloning experiment. Following which a 'butt-baby' was handed caringly into the crowd. The comedy timing of Tenacious D is awesome. To Tribute, the whole crowd was singing along.
Althought some people slate Tenacious D for being too mainstream or not rocking enough, I disagree and ask every self respecting rock fan to pick up the album and laugh and rock at the same time. Praise the D!
