Gig Reviews: The Tivoli @ Camden Barfly (17th July 2009)
by Gary Smith
We arrived at the Barfly just as the acoustic act was finishing up, unfortunately we were not impressed with the act. We didn't catch his name, and all he seemed to be doing was lightly singing pirate songs!
The Tivoli (pronounced "Ti-Volley" unlike most people think) then came on, who were an amazing band...especially live! If you have heard their FREE DOWNLOAD track, My Town then you will not be expecting the performance they gave.

They kicked off to a great show, and featured their new single, "Pawns On The Fence", taken from their well selling album, "National Service".
They also used some sample tracks to open, and fill in some tracks which worked really well, especially when they had a nice long sampled intro and stood perfectly still until it was each persons cue to come in and it worked great.
The band had travelled from Sheffield, so was great to see them playing with such a large crowd - a quick head count spotted about 100 or so...(we may have been seeing double after so many drinks!) and they warmed up the crowd a treat and everyone was having loads of fun.

The venue itself was suprisingly small for its reputation, which made the numbers of people look so much more! What we found most obscure with the venue was the gig being on upstairs with a nightclub downstairs, which was quite a cool feature!
After The Tivoli's set, we managed to catch them and have a quick chat which you can read up on here.
