Gig Reviews: Two Days Too Late @ The Agincourt Rock Venue, Camberley (24th October 2003)
by Gordon Tebbutt
Turning up to the venue for tonight’s band was a surprise. For one thing there was a queue! I can honestly say that aside from showcase nights, I haven’t encountered a decent queue for an unsigned band before!
There was a buzz about the place, as it was stated before the show that during the gig there would be a team of people filming emo-rock’s new boys ‘Two Days Two Late’ from ‘the guys at Sky One & Channel 4’, and also production from people at MTV2 AND the Extreme sports channel. With name-dropping like this, how could I fail to come along to this one?
Also after a conversation with Two Days Too Late’s management, we discovered that an EP entitled ‘Five Ways To Lose Face’ will be available soon, recorded at Stakeout by Jason, who is (apparently) the same guy who recorded Reuben’s album. Both the video and EP are expected in December 2003.
Anyway, back to the gig! After a good performance by the support acts Audax, Life as is and Rebus,
which tickled and roused the crowd, Two Days Too Late took to the stage. To an opening number of ‘Haunted’ lead singer Will sang his little heart out (more cheesy phrases coming) to great crowd applause. The crowd seemed in real form tonight, as were 2D2L, maybe because of the prescence of the cameras, but in my opinion due to the presence of the band, and their incresing appeal.
The band had the crowd eating out of their hands! This was espoecially true for the videoing of one song (can't remember which one), which started and stopped several times before the band launched into their live video performance. The crowd just jumped around like a bunch of crazed chipmunks (cheese warning no.2), only to stop as the band paused as videoing had to be restarted. After the second time this happened, the crowd still went doolally as the song ran through to completion, to great (almost sarcastic) cheers by the crowd!
Finishing, Two Days Too Late wrapped up an understandably memorable gig, with the crowd, from where I was standing, all going home with a smile on their faces. I’m looking forward to the EP, and also curious to see the band on the telly! All round, a good one – nice one guys!
